Pacific Council Jamboree 2011 • PJ2011

In the summer 2009, 12 youth and 5 volunteers from our town, spent 2 weeks in Cape Breton. The first week, the troop toured the amazing sites that Cape Breton had to offer.  Learning about our history, visiting mine, kayaking, ate some fresh lobster and toured museums. The second week, our troop participated in the Scotia Jamboree, with youth from all over the east coast, making friends and bringing back tons of great stories!

The trip brought some great experiences, it made these youth stronger and have a better appreciation for their country. The character development alone, in taking a two week trip away from family, friends and comforts of home, speaks of the challenges these 12 scouts had to go through.  We had such a great time, that not even once, did a scout complain that they missed their Television or game console, instead, they socialized with friends around a fire, laughed a great stories, and enjoyed the splendorous sites of the east coast. The trip was magical, these youth and even the adults came back changed and dreaming of another one.

Scouting, unlike many other activities, completes a need that youth need more today than ever.  Community service, leadership development, the environment and the avoidance of electronic devices... Apart from a GPS ..  We teach skills, that will bring out the future leader in them, encourage accomplishments, challenge their minds to solve their

So, in the summer of 2011, our Scout troop is embarking on another adventure. Quite proudly, they put in a proposal for another ambitious trip, this time to attend a Jamboree at Camp Byng in British Columbia. This two week trip, gives our troop the chance to discover the other coast of our country, meet new friends, step up to new challenges and come back with more memories.
